KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This morning, the city of Grandview started a major renovation.
The Grandview Police Department and City Hall are getting a new look after being open for almost five decades. City leaders joined construction crews to break some walls and kick off a multi-million dollar renovation project.
The city hall and police department share a building and opened on the same day nearly 50 years ago.
The project is expected to cost $5.3 million, making it the largest renovation project from the $21 million bond package passed in April 2022.
“We actually had a bond package and the bond package passed by more than 80%,” Grandview Mayor Leonard Jones said. “80% was the passage of all the residents to upgrade city hall. That is amazing by itself. You don’t normally find bond packages that pass by that amount.”
The grandview city hall and police department building will be closed to the public during the renovation. Most city departments are operating at other sites around the city, including the municipal court and animal control.
Those who live in Grandview and have questions about how the renovations could impact them can call 816-316-4800, or email the city at [email protected].
Grandview’s new city hall and police department are expected to open in about a year.
